For the project 'live brief' i choose to do fashion which was creating a lining for the moo bags. i choose this as its more fashion based then the interior and that's something that i enjoy looking at.
For my research I took my own photos of moo bags which I looked at when I visited the shop
then from this i did my own drawings of the best ones that i liked and wrote abit about the leather and how there made. I also then looked at different bags, but didn't get much research as from time management. From my research i then looked into looking at the colours and the details, and how the bag was created to see which lining would go the best. It then came to me doing my visual sheets and with me looking in the 'Moo' shop i was able to see the colours which they worked with and the patterns they used. I also asked the workers on little advice that i could take forward into my designs.
When the clients visited they always said that they liked my work, so there was nothing ever to change. I changed some of my work myself as i thought other ways would work better to the way that id done them.
The client never had anything bad to say about my work. They always said that they liked it and that it worked really well. I stuck to the colours that they used and tryed to fit it around the 'Spring' theme as best as i could.
Throughout this project i wanted to think of a good, but simpled background for my lining, so i had to experiment on what i thought would work the best with my pattern. So from my visual sheets i looked how i created my background on them and tryed doing my own on white cotton, by this i made my own pigment colours and found a small sponge which i could sponge my pigments on the fabric to give it the same effect that was on my sheets. I found out several attempts that this effect worked. I then went on to trying it out in different colours. I was going to stick to just doing my pattern in two colours but while i was doing samples i tryed it out it out in browns and pinks to see what it would look like. I also then did it on muslin fabric to see how it would/ and if it would work on other fabric then just cotton.
I had alot of time of during this project so that meant me been behind, so to catch up and make sure everything got done i stayed behind after classes and also come back on my days off. I new this was for a client and had to be presented on time to them, so this determined my even more. Also because I didn't get my tracing done with much time left. i decided to do a simple pattern which i had created on my visual sheets. Even though it was simple i think it worked really well and i liked it.
If there was no client constraints i wouldn't have used different fabric as i think cotton works well its strong and easy to work with. But i perhaps would have used different colours as even though i think these colours worked well i would have liked to do it my own way.
I really enjoy working with leaves and flowers. So i decided to look into William Morris's work and how he created drawings using leaves and flowers. I enjoyed working with his work and looking into it and it helped me with my work. I also looked at Bridget Riley because i liked how she worked with lines and bright colours. This is something i was going to take into my work, but it didn't work. And i perferd the sponging effect.
I did nine patterns on my sheets so i had a choice to choose from, but this was one that caught my eye and that i liked working with. Because my pattern is simple and easy and only was made with two colours I don't think that my pattern would be too hard to be reproduced again.
Doing a customer profile helped me alot as i new that it needed to be girly and it needed to go with the spring season, it also helped me work on the colours and the design. Without this i think that i would have struggled abit.
I think that the only thing that went wrong was my blog as i didn't keep up to date with it so if i was able to do this project again I would keep up to track with my blog. and make sure i was blogging everyday. If i was to have worked on a sketchbook I don't think that i would have got it all done as i don't enjoy doing them so i did all my work on sheets and i got it all done in time.
My time management could have been better as i missed alot of time of college so this pulled me behind, but i worked fast and was able to get all my work done on time, so this didn't effect me to what i thought it was going too. For my next project I need to make sure my time management isn't behind. so i don't have to rush it all again.
I started my diary on filling it in everyday, but as i was trying to concentrate on the project so i didn't really remember to fill it in. I used my blog to the best i could and made sure i got the main images and information i needed on it. I think i could have done more on my blog then what i did, but then again i was busy trying to concentrate on my work.
When Ive done other projects I've always tryed to work the best i could to make sure i got it done on time. and to make sure it was to the best standards. But because it was for someone out of college i new it had to be done properly to make sure it was up to what they expected. I enjoy doing it and it was a very good experience. The feedback that moo gave me through out the project was brilliant it gave me more confidence in my design.
id give myself an 8/10 as i think if i had more time or was in college everyday i would have created something a little bit better but i do like my pattern. My strength was my sheets and printing, i really enjoyed working with a new pattern and making up my own pigments, i think my sheets all work well together and look presentable. To improve the project i would say time management as this cut me back alot and made me have to rush in the last week.
